Well, y’know, when it comes to how much gold there is in the world, there’s been all sorts of talk. Some folks reckon they can tell ya down to the last gram, but the truth is, it ain’t that simple. The World Gold Council, them folks who keep track of all this shiny stuff, say that over the years, we’ve pulled out ’bout 201,296 tonnes of gold from the earth. Now that’s a lot, ain’t it? But here’s the kicker—there’s still around 53,000 tonnes left underground. Ain’t that something? Seems like the earth still got a little gold hidin’ in them hills!
Now, you might be wonderin’ where all this gold has gone. Well, some of it is sittin’ in places like bank vaults, in government reserves, and even in people’s homes. They say there’s around 184,000 tonnes of gold just sittin’ around like that. Some folks keep it in their jewelry boxes, others hide it in secret places, but it’s out there. In fact, a big chunk of it is held by the rich and mighty folks, y’know, the ones with all them fancy vaults and safe rooms.
But that ain’t all! The World Gold Council says there’s also a bunch of it still buried deep underground. They reckon there’s another 57,000 tonnes still waiting to be dug up. That means we ain’t seen the end of the gold rush just yet! Ain’t that a bit excitin’ to think about? And where’s most of this gold come from, you ask? Well, it ain’t hard to guess, really. Most of it comes from three countries: China, Australia, and South Africa. If you add up all their gold, it’s a big ol’ pile! Then comes the good ol’ US of A, which was one of the top gold producers in 2016.
In fact, from what they say, by 2017, they’d dug up about 190,040 tonnes of gold. And then they figured another 7,000 tonnes was added on top of that in the next couple years. So that’s a mighty big number, all said and done, but there’s still gold to be found, folks! Folks are always huntin’ for more, diggin’ down into the earth, takin’ it out like it’s never gonna run out. Maybe one day, we’ll hit the bottom, but I wouldn’t bet on it. There’s always a little more down there, just waitin’ to shine!
But hold on, don’t get too excited just yet. While there’s a whole lot of gold been found, and folks keep pullin’ more out, it ain’t like it’s just everywhere. It’s rare stuff, y’see. Not everyone can go out and just find it in their backyard. Nope, it takes a lot of work to get that shiny stuff out of the ground. It’s precious and hard to come by, which is why people hold onto it so tight.
So, if you’re wonderin’ how much gold there is in the world, well, the simple answer is: there’s a heap, but not enough to go around for everyone. It’s like a treasure hunt that never ends, with some folks finding more than others. If you ever get your hands on a little piece of it, hold onto it tight, ’cause it sure ain’t growin’ on trees!
