Well, y’all been wonderin’ how much gold is left in the world, huh? Some folks think it’s all used up, but that ain’t true. Gold’s still out there, just hidden real deep in the ground. Now, let me tell ya what I know ‘bout this thing. Gold ain’t like other things that grow on trees, no sir. It’s been comin’ outta the earth for thousands of years, and folks been diggin’ it up ever since. But even with all the gold we’ve taken, there’s still more waitin’ to be found.
You see, gold makes up a tiny bit of the earth’s crust, ‘bout four parts per billion. Don’t sound like much, but that adds up. The World Gold Council says we still got around 54,000 tonnes of gold left deep under the ground. That’s a lot, but it ain’t like we can just reach down and grab it. It’s buried real deep and might take some fancy tools to get to it.
Now, let’s talk about how much we’ve already dug up. If ya look at history, folks have been diggin’ gold for a long, long time. The first gold mines opened way back, and since then, we’ve dug up a whole lot. As of 2021, the World Gold Council says that we’ve mined ‘bout 200,000 tonnes of gold in total. But don’t go thinkin’ that’s all of it. Gold don’t disappear when you dig it up. A lot of it gets recycled, passed down, and reused in all sorts of things. Jewelry, electronics, even coins. So, even though we’ve mined a lot, a good bit of it’s still out there, in one form or another.
Now, some folks ask, “Are we gonna run out of gold?” Well, it’s a tricky question. Gold’s kinda special ‘cause there’s not much of it, but it’s not gone completely. We got more hidden away in the earth, but it’s gonna be harder to get to. Right now, the gold that’s left to be mined is in places like Australia, Russia, and South Africa. Australia’s sittin’ pretty with the most unmined gold, ‘bout 8,400 tonnes. Russia’s next with 6,800 tonnes, and South Africa’s got 5,000 tonnes. Them countries got the gold hidden under their soil, just waitin’ for the right folks to dig it out.
But don’t go thinkin’ all that gold’s gonna be dug up tomorrow. The easy-to-reach stuff’s already been taken, and now we gotta dig deeper, spend more money, and use better technology to get the rest. It’s gonna take time, and some of it might not even be worth the cost to pull out. The price of gold might go up, or down, and that’ll affect whether it’s worth the trouble to keep diggin’.
Let’s not forget that we got gold in other places too, like the ocean. I know it sounds crazy, but the ocean holds gold too. The amount of gold in the ocean is huge, but it’s so spread out, it’d be real hard to get to. Still, it’s there, waitin’ for someone to figure out how to get it.
Now, some folks might be worried about gold runnin’ out. Well, I’ll tell ya this: gold might get harder to find, but it ain’t gonna disappear. As long as we keep lookin’, we’ll keep findin’ it. And even if we do run low on gold, people been makin’ stuff outta gold for so long, it’s like a cycle. We use it, we recycle it, and it keeps comin’ back. So, no need to be too worried just yet.
So, how much gold is left in the world? Well, there’s still a lot, but it’s gonna take time and effort to get to it. As long as we keep diggin’, we’ll keep findin’ it. But don’t go expectin’ to see piles of gold just layin’ around. It’s a long road ahead, but as long as we don’t stop, gold’ll be around for a good while yet.
